Played early on Saturday, April 26. Had never played the course before, and my golf buddy and I got matched up with a member, which helped. Teed off on time. Never had to wait to hit. Never pushed to hit. 4.25 hours for the round -- member hit a few more shots than we did. Cart girl around at least four times in the round. Adequate water on course. Adequate (not new) clubhouse with friendly staff. Range average to above average.
First, the good. No, actually, the very good -- the greens. Although they started slow as they were a bit damp pre-8 a.m., they were in excellent shape, rolled very true, held lines, and offered quite a variety of true breaks with surprisingly few ballmarks.
Course continues to go through a re-design, but construction/deconstruction really was not much of an issue. Only complaint there is that, had we not been with a member, we probably would have gotten lost between holes on a couple of occasions. Tee boxes were in generally good shape.
Par-3s and par-5s definitely more interesting than the generally shortish (avg 360-380 yards from blue tees) par-4s. Front nine is definitely the side to score on. Par-5 ninth is a very good golf hole.
Biggest complaint, if I can call it that, is that the fairways are pretty sparse. Member told us they keep them cut tight. Thus, older, very firm fairways sometimes left you with overly tight lies.
At about 25 minutes from S. Buckhead/Midtown and just over $40 for a weekend round, it was a solid value. Not posh, but a good place to work on your game. A step up, albeit not a huge one, from the American Golf-managed city courses.
