Bridgewater Country Club in Fort Erie first came to my
attention when I saw it listed in the LMG offerings
earlier this year. I understand that it is a private
club, and when I found that it was listed at the Stanley
Thompson Society as having been worked on by the late
great one himself, I got really excited and booked a tee
time through LMG.
Coming in as a single, I was placed with a threesome of
gentlemen who were members of the club, which was a treat
for me, given my lack of familiarity with the course. My
playing partners had a little game going on that they'd
obviously been playing before, so I kind of just sat back
and soaked it all in. I am kinda green at golf anyways,
and didn't want to be a burden, so the odd time I sent
one the opposite way into the netherlands I would just play
from my cart partner's shot location, and that kept the
flow going I think. I got a chance to ask questions and
hear stories that made the whole thing even more
enjoyable. My partner pointed out some Thompsonesque
features (green placements, shapes etc) that were all very
interesting to me.
The conditions at the time (end of May) were quite good,
although it was very windy that day. Greens rolled pretty
consistently, and the main problem with the fairways was
I was not in them from the drive enough for my liking
(ahem!). Being an LMG booking, cart was included although
there were certainly many others walking.
I asked at the clubhouse after the round about
availability of tee times to the public, and was advised
that the only way (aside from being a member or guest)
was through LMG, so here's your chance to check it out,
my fellow-LMGers!
