I played here on 4/9, and as expected, the course was in great condition. I have been playing Cotton Fields for about three years, and the only time that I have ever experienced it being below standards was after severe rain, or one of the employees overwatering a few of the areas around the greens.
The course is tucked away in an industrial area,(which is very unusual). It is a very quiet and tucked away style of golf course that lets you really unwind and leave your troubles behind you.
The facility is very well managed. The guys in the clubhouse are friendly, and they have a decent snack bar. As one of the other reviewers posted, the clubhouse is not for sitting around for long periods to pass the time away. It is great to take a break if you need to before hitting the back nine. They have a TV, and that's about it. The clubhouse is no frills, but it serves its purpose.
The course is greening up very nicely. It is not 100% there yet, but with a few weeks and some rain, it will be in top form.
If you are a golfer, it is almost impossible not to like this course. It has a mixture of everything; long holes, short holes, large greens, small greens, bunkers, etc. One thing is for sure; there is no water shortage at this course. You will be hard pressed to find a course with more water on it than this one. The water is more of a scenery enhancement than it is a hinderance.
Fools beware, this course is very wide open and it invites you to try stupid things that you otherwise would not on other tighter courses. Good risk reward shots pay off, but bad ones have you in bogeyville immediately because it is very hard to recover from some of the trees.
If you are in the fairway a lot, you will definitely shoot a good score here, but if you are erratic with your tee shots, it can be a long day.
The greens are not very fast, but I thought they were consistent. They seemed to be in great shape. The course in general was very well manicured, and you can tell that they take pride in its appearance.
I feel like the price is fair for the condition of the course, but on the southside, it is sometimes hard to get the price that they are asking. LMTT is my salvation. I played for $21 which is awesome!
The course does not allow walking, and I think this is a good idea.
The driving range and practice greens are top notch. I have never seen a practice green that was as closely representative of the actual greens as this one was.
Overall, the Cotton Fields is a very good course, and a very good challenge. It remains a favorite of mine.
