Played the course on July 1st. This was our fifth time, but the first this year since the changes were made to the course. We read the reviews that many others have made and thought it was time to see for ourselves. Unfortunately many of the negative comments were accurate. First off the practice facility is horrible. Hitting irons only off mats with no flags with dirty, muddy golf balls does not give a good first impression. Then you go to the new first tee and have to make a decision as to whether to hit a wood with a carry of over 210 yards(with no warmup) or an iron short of the creek. The tees were in horrible shape for any course, let alone one that considers itself higher end. It appeared that on the most part the owners have stopped daily maintenance. The grass was long with many of the previous days tee areas not filled in especially on the par 3's. # 10 tees looked like they hadn't been cut in a week. The fairways were however in good shape except that I wish everyone would fill their divots, although maybe the garbage fill in the sand buckets may have something to do with this as it was clumps of dirt with lots of sticks.
The greens were firm but in good shape and had good pace. Given we never saw a marshall, the pace of play was good for a holiday at 4 1/4 hrs. We teed off at 9:15.
Unfortunately the changes to the course to built some condos have ruined a good track and overall maintenance has dropped. This course is no longer a must play even at LMG rates. Legends at a few more bucks with Whirlpool and Lockness at lower fees are much better bets.
Too bad John Daly's first Canadian golf design has dropped off so much in only a few years.
