I played the course on Wednesday for the first time, and I was very impressed. Got a LMTT for $18! The staff was nice, and the food in the grill was awesome. Try the taco salad, or the hot dog with onions.
This course is very well spread out over a lot of land, and you venture off quite a ways from the clubhouse as you start to play. This is not a course that I would advise trying to walk. You would not make it past nine holes.
The tee boxes were nice, the fairways were nicely manicured, and the greens were immaculate. I was surprised at how well they held long approach shots even though it was quite hot, and they were very firm.
This is a tough course, but it is very fair. I must give it props by saying that good shots are very well rewarded. On bad shots, you are able to recover if you have a decent scramble game and don't get frustrated easily.
The layout seemed a little quirky to me at first because none of the fairways have even lies. There are lots of blind shots, so if you are playing for the first time, you need to drive ahead to see where the flag is. There are no tee box markers that let you know the contour of the hole. I did not see any yard markers either. You don't know if you are out 100 yards or 150 yards.
There are some collection areas(canyons)in some of the fairways that look harmless, but trust me, they will cost you 3 to 4 strokes easily. Not only are they deep, but they have thick grass, and rocks in them. Take an unplayable lie so you don't damage your clubs!
Do not get macho on this course. If you have the skills of a player that should be at the whites, by all means play the whites here. If you try to step back and play outside of your level by playing harder tess, you will balloon your score.
The course is very wide open in some spots, but there are severe penalties for missing badly. This course has one of the best overall selections of par threes that I have ever experienced.
Overall, I think this is a great course. I suggest that you play it now, because as it matures, it will only get harder, and more frustrating.
I can really see this course sponsoring some big time tournaments one day. I will definitely be back!
